It’s been awhile since I’ve updated my journal; with good reason. Commuting to Sega has ended up being much more of a nightmare than anticipated. Considering that Sega didn’t provide free parking for temporary employees I decided that it’d be better for me to take CalTrain. Sounded like a great idea except for one problem …

The times highlighted in red are my stops on Caltrain.
Ouch! Hop on the train at 7:20am and arrive in Frisco at 8:49am with a good 15 minute walk (comfortable speed). The trip home wasn’t any better; I could take the bullet train which left at 6:13pm however that train didn’t stop in Sunnyvale. In order to get back to my car I’d have to get off the bullet train at the Mountain View station and wait 31 minutes for the local train that left at 6:07pm (impossible to catch unless I ran the entire way) and get back in Sunnyvale at 7:32pm.
So with that commute I’ve reconsidered the position at Sega. Sure Sega is a good company, but the commute and the “sloppy” bug-writing style as well as having to run every bug by my lead wasn’t making me want to stick with a horrible 2 hour commute each direction.
Fortunately for me Atari responded to my resume and I interviewed with them today. It went well, and best of all, they’re located here in Sunnyvale. I might even have a shorter commute to Atari than Namco. Having a decent commute heavily outweighs what Sega could have offered me.

My first gryphon ride in World of Warcraft
Yes, I gave in and decided to pick up World of Warcraft. My best friend convinced me to try it out and now I’m sitting with a level 15 troll rogue on the Pacific server Cenarius. Do I like it more than FFXI? It’s a little too early for me to make that decision, but there is one thing I know for certain: WoW Rogue > FFXI Thief … by a whole lot.
I really dislike how aggro monsters can spawn and instantly spawn with aggro. This has led to many, many deaths due to completely unexpected adds. Fortunately though you don’t lose XP if you decide to release and run back to your corpse as a ghost.
Combat is fun, crafting is fun. Overall I’d have to say that WoW is more fun to play than XI, but XI outshines WoW on a couple of things: user-interface (duh, designed for PS2 ease), graphics (don’t get me wrong, the art-style in WoW is beautiful, but XI is still superior), and the job system. To me WoW is kinda like a Warcraft flavored Diablo 3.
Once the new patch hits for XI I’ll probably go back and spend more time in Vana’diel. Right now I’m just not feeling XI.
