Sometimes doors are closed for a reason as a few of my fellow Drunken Monkey guild members discovered this afternoon. My best friend Stan (Trogdor in WoW) had been itching for some payback after attempting to solo Blackfathom Deep yesterday so a group of us decided to pick up some quests and proceed to blow through the instance. (We were 34,33,29,28 so it was cake).

Once we got all the way to the end of the instance Stan uttered the phrase that graces my livejournal entry. Upon inspection of the room Draxx and I discovered 4 unlit braziers around the serpentine statue. Immediately after lighting the fourth, both sides of the room opened up unleashing a large mob of level 25-27 elites on us.
After the initial “OH SHIT!” reaction I couldn’t stop laughing for a good 5 minutes. We had absolutely NO idea what we were getting ourselves into. It was all just innocent exploration. So that’s what the developers meant when they mentioned that “uber” instances have “gatekeepers” as a measuring stick. If you can’t get past the gatekeeper(s), no sense in trying to kill the uber-elite waiting for us on the other side.
After a good solid 2 weeks of playing WoW I’d definitely have to say that I prefer it over FFXI. It’s not without it faults, but the overall enjoyment I’ve been receiving has greatly outweighed any quibbles I may have. I also spent some time reading the mythos behind the Warcraft world and Azeroth is even richer now than before.
Thank you Blizzard, you did a great job … but could you please change the auction house so it isn’t like eBay?
