Ground combat is awkward and clunky. Very not fun.

I haven't played Eve so I have no point of reference for space combat. But on its own space combat in STO is extremely fun and satisfying.

The ground combat is reallllly what had me questioning. It looks rather awkward and clunky. I saw a video or screenshot of two guys within arms reach firing phasers at one another... maybe I've played melee too long to remember what it's like to use ranged weapons that close? :)

What's the combat in space like compared to EVE?

Space combat is WIN. Ground combat is epic fail. But as you might have gathered, there's enough there and enough potential to keep me going with STO.

As soon as I hit commander with my toon, I'll be creating a klingon (well, maybe an orion female ^^;) and share my experiences from that perspective.

Now why'd I have to go off and buy ME2? Lol.

My only complaint about ME2 so far is how long it takes to reload sections that you failed at. It's already painful enough to die and redo any possible dialog trees you went through, but then to have to wait 15-20 seconds for the thing to reload? Ugh.

But other than that, the game is full of win. I never finished the first game (*gasp* I know), and now I'm wondering if I should stop and remedy that. I probably won't stop, but I may pick up the first one and play through it and carry that save over for my 2nd playthrough.

There's just the issue of Final Fantasy XIII coming out March 9th. I need to finish up ME2 before then because all bets are off until I finish FFXIII ^^;

Oh, and I did decide to go with Infiltrator. I like it, but man I want a shotgun to wtfpwn guys from behind after stealthing.

As Cypher said, a break can very often be a great thing, and variety is certainly the spice of life, can't agree more!

STO is rather intriguing actually, the play style from what I've seen/read is very interesting. I love Star Trek though I couldn't call myself a Trekkie certainly, but I can really see the appeal of the format.

Looking forward to reading more of your reviews on the game!

Hey Nevik,
Don't worry about the break from wow. Variety is the spice of life. Getting into a rut will burn you out. Glad STO is still holding your attention. I've resisted STO because I really can't afford the 2nd subscription... also I'd have to buy (and install on my mac) windows. Gasp. I'd highly recommend Mass Effect 2. Loving the game so far. I spent 2 hrs just exploring my ship and meeting the crew. They've made a ton of improvements from the first game.
    Enjoying the blog,
    Cypher

First I would like to extend my condolences on the loss of your friend and guildmate. I consider myself fortunate to have been an active MMO gamer for nearly 15 years and so far I have not yet felt the pain of a passing guildmate. Naturally I have had to bear the sadness of the passing of quite a few family members and even a few friends, who like Killdawabbit, were far too young to say goodbye.

I think it is wonderful the way you handled the loss and the tribute you have made to this man. It is not the situation that makes us but rather how we handle the situation.

It is also good to hear that you had a respectful turn-out for the ceremony. It is all too often that griefing can ruin such an event.

Sorry mate, but I have to say the Horde have a distinct advantage in any other city based holiday achievement. Just look at Undercity, have you seen that place? It's enough to crush a mans very will to live to just find the elevators!

I do agree though, Thunder Bluff and Orgrimmar did present easy tables to sit ones bum and eat pumpkin pie.

Cheers!
